Working-time mismatch and mental health

Steffen Otterbach, Mark Wooden and Yin King Fok from the
Institute for Health Care & Public Management, University of Hohenheim and the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, The University of Melbourne report on  survey data for Australia and Germany on the impact of differences between actual and desired work hours on mental health. The results suggest that overemployment (working more hours than desired) has adverse consequences for the mental health of workers in both countries, though the magnitude of such effects are larger in Germany. Underemployment (working fewer hours than desired), however, seems to only be of significance in Australia. More on the report here
